Protection of Environment

Protection of environment is the need of the hour. Today, our environment is on the brink of destruction and if we do not act now then we would be committing a global suicide. The father of our nation Bapuji has rightly sad-

“Nature has enough for man’s need not for man’s greed “

The greed and malice of human race has led to the overall destruction of environment. We have forgotten the fact that environment is the gift of God to mankind. We should appreciate the presence of nature for its inherent value and the contribution it makes to our knowledge. Our aesthetic, imagination and creativity are the major reasons to preserve the environment. In India particularly, our needs and culture is the replete with plant and animal imagery. We therefore need to keep future possibilities open for their use.

“The day I see a leaf is a wonderful day.”

The levels of pollution are aggravating at an alarming rate. Pollution is curbing the beauty of our environment. In the earlier times the level of pollution were very less as the human race developed, their needs were no longer confined to the basic amenities of food and  water but now they wanted all the luxuries of life they fulfilled these at the cost of  environment  which led to its destruction.

With gradual industrialization the levels of air pollution water pollution increased tremendously, but why do we forget that we are also a part of this environment, the degradation of the environment will consequently lead to degradation of humanity.

“We ought to preserve the environment of which we are a part.”

With increase in pollution humans are suffering from various diseases. Air pollution leads several respiratory diseases like Bronchitis .Water pollution is the cause of several diseases like Diarrhea. A new kind of pollution which has recently cropped up and is the most dangerous is the radioactive pollution which harms the genetic system of the humans causing disabilities not only in the present generation but also in the future generations also.

Fortunately, now we are aware of how to protect the environment. People now feel that each one of us has responsibility to save the Mother Earth. They realized that progress in science and technology should be in tune with sustainable development.  Emphasis is now being laid on rational consumption so that we leave a joyful and healthy life for future generations.

The best way to protect our environment is to plant trees. The government should opt for rapid afforestation program. Trees act as shock absorbers, they absorb noise pollution, and they hold the soil and reduce soil pollution. Trees bring rain.

More trees mean more, more rain means more trees again.”

In India there has been an ancient practice of protecting trees, by assuming that some particular groups of trees have supernatural power and they are the adobe of God and if anybody would cut these trees then a devastating calamity was bound to occur.

Industries should adopt eco-friendly technologies if we are to save environment. They should not release the refuse into the water bodies before treating the properly. Compressed natural gas should be used in automobiles in place of petrol and diesel. Smokeless Chulhas are also prevalent these days as they cause less pollution as compared to the traditional ones.

In our country environmentalists have led to framing of a new curriculum in education to prepare the coming generations to meet new challenges. People are being made aware harms of degrading the environment, and how to live in harmony with nature. Many laws are being made to protect the environment and to reduce pollution, but the biggest challenge is in front of the new generation.

So, it is our earnest hope that the generation will restore the pristine beauty of environment.
