Nowadays, Science and Technology have progressed a lot. Research on these subjects has led to the development of the world and has also helped in making the lives of common people easier and less complicated. Study on these subjects had also helped in gaining information related to every possible topic. Although the progress of science has numerous advantages, it also had some disadvantages. One of banes is the Arms Race.

　The Arms Race is basically a competition between countries over weapons. Since centuries, every country has desired to have more weapons and arms than the other country. Production of weapons has increased tremendously and so has the budget for buying weapons. In the name of defence, a lot of money is wasted on arms like explosives ,nuclear weapons, atom bombs, guns and other fire arms. This has many bad and ill-effects on the common people

　The use of weapons has a bloody trail of history. There has been a lot of bloodshed due to arms. The most famous is the use of an Atom Bomb on two cities of Japan. The USA had dropped nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki during the second World War.

　The arms race has an adverse effect on the people. First of all, the budget for defence is showing an increasing trend for almost all the countries. The people who suffer the most are the common people. Money which could have been utilized for eradicating poverty, unemployment diseases etc is being used for purchasing more and more arms. Thus, the common people suffer due to the enmity or the competition between countries for weapons. Secondly, the production of more weapons means their higher usage. Therefore, there are many bomb blasts and shootouts which cause the destruction of precious lives. Lastly, the waste produced during the manufacture of weapons is dumped into waterbodies or soil which pollutes it and is harmful for the people.

　Sometimes, the arms reach the hands of terrorists which cause many explosions and kill people. Some of the famous terrorist attacks are the 9/11 and the 26/11. The 9/11 was an attack on the World Trade centre in the USA by terrorists. It caused the death of more than 500 people. The 26/11 was an attack on the popular Taj Hotel of India. It killed about 200 people and caused havoc in the country. More than 150 people were injured.

　So we see that an arms race has only adverse effects on the whole planet. We should live in mutual harmony and peace to make this world a better place to live in. One should spread awareness to the children as they are the future generation of the planet. We should stand united against the manufacture of weapons. The government should also stop the production of fire-arms and should pay attention to the problems of the nation like unemployment, poverty and education. Lastly I’d like to say that,

Man is but one soul
And Love can beget only love
Oh Lord! Let this love multiply manifold
And let it spread all over the globe......

　It is high time that all the countries live peacefully and harmoniously and a concept of Universal Brotherhood is propagated. It is not somebody else who will come and take lead for this work. It is all of us who should take this initiative as responsible citizens of the world. Let us stop this arms race. Let us stop this rat race and make the world a beautiful place to live in so that we can proudly say, "If there is paradise anywhere, it is here, it is here, it is here."
