The word 'environment' commonly means surrounding. All of us are surrounded by a variety of living and non-living things. Everything that surrounds and affects a living thing forms a part of its environment.

　God has created such a beautiful and wonderful world. In this world, there are so many things that it will be almost impossible for us to imagine. There are variety of animals, trees, plants, etc. All these are like treasures for us because they provide us with uncountable number of things. A natural environment in much better than a man-made environment. It is rightly said "A thing of beauty is joy forever." When there is greenery all around then we feel like we are lying in the lap of nature. But this is also an important fact that our environment is getting influenced day by day. We are not only terminating our environment but we our also terminating our own self. Our environment is only our main support for survival, if it will get accomplished, then we can also not survive on earth. Therefore it is our obligation and our responsibility to fortify our environment. Everybody has given a right to enjoy this graceful environment but the point is how we employ or treat it. We always insure the environment for our own benefit. But it should also done for a limit because after that everything will get abolished.

　Technology has risen so high that it is damaging our environment. Vehicles like cars, buses, trucks etc are releasing too much of harmful gases. Parents and grandparents, youth and children none are grudged. It is called vehicular pollution which is invading and corroding our bodies every moment. Gases released from factories and power plants are no less these gases cause respiratory problems, headache, dizziness, lung cancer etc. These gases contain carbon monoxide, oxides of nitrogen, hydrocarbons and lead Vehicles may be snuging and pleasing our life as we can reach one place to the other faster but these vehicles are also originating deadly diseases. Although the problem of air pollution is quite massive but my be its not yet too late.

　We can obstruct and control this great problem by:-

◎Getting our vehicles pollution-check after every three months.
◎Using bicycles for short distances and car pools.
◎Retrenching the use of diesel and petrol and extending the use of CNG (Compressed natural gas).
◎Shifting factories and industries from the residential areas to industrial areas which are for away.

　Apart these problems, there are more problems arising and destroying our environment. One Such problem is sanitation. our environment is getting ditry and dirty at its highest level Wastes are generated from all levels - in homes, hotels, factories, institutions, offices, etc.

　Domestic wastes like plastics, papers, cans, rubbers which are non-biodegradable are completely ruining our environment. Hospitals and factories release wastes which are chemically harmful. Most wastes thrown on land reaches water which creates another problem that is water pollution. All these can be prevented if we use the following methods in keeping our environment clean and healthy:-

◎Composting is the best way which converts a harmful waste to profitable manure.
◎Dumping is also another great method waste is dumped in low lying areas situated away from human habitation as well as agricultural land.

　Have we ever thought that animals are so essential for us? Some people, for their profit kill even animals. animals are similar to us. Many life processes are same in animals as well as humans. Even animals should be given a higher position than us. Without them nothing is possible. But then also. animals are extinct. They provide, us food, clothes, medicines, transportation and even help in agriculture. We are dependent on them in so many ways. We should also show our kindness to them and we should not kill them or hunt them.

　Like animals, plants also play the same and as important role as animals. But people for their own favor, own avail cut trees in a large number. They provide us with fruits, vegetables, food etc. Except we live in support with then because they give us oxygen and take in carbon dioxide. They yield even for wood, timber and many other thing. Most of the trees like -Pipal and Tulsi are even worshipped. We should try to cut trees in a very short number.

　Environment is salutary for us in many ways. If it will end, we will end. Therefore it is for us and our future to "protect our environment". We should take it up as a challenge to save our environment. It is our benefactor, it is our friend which help us when we want or when we need; so we should also try to show our friendship towards environment. On 5th June, Every year "World Environment Day" is exalted. One of the earlier slogans adopted on this day was "Save the planet earth, it is the only one we have". It is our first and foremost duty to save our environment.
