In December 2009, the meeting of global climate problem was held in Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark. Including America, British, France, China, Italy and Germany……etc, lots of countries joined this meeting, trying to think out how to solve the problem caused by the changes of global climate. However, unfortunately, after several days’ discussing, there was no consensus between the referees because every country doesn’t want to sacrifice their benefit, although all of them want to solve the problem. So, the referees couldn’t do anything but listening to the referees who came from some small island country on the Pacific Ocean gave speeches about how soon their hometowns would be flooded by sea and disappear on the map forever. Global warming is the most serious problem of the worldwide climate changing. The documentary film ±2℃ made by Ms. Chen, a famous TV program host, is the first documentary film talking about the effect caused by global warming to Taiwan. In it, I knew how dangerous Taiwan is when the earth is getting hotter and hotter. When the average temperature degree of earth gets two degrees higher, the ocean will also get higher and flood many big cities, Taipei included. To protect our earth, we can also do a lot of things, besides what governments do. First, cut down on the amount of CO2 discharge. To do it, we can take the public transports, or even better, ride a bike instead of driving cars by ourselves. It is very effective to cut down on discharging green-house gas. Turning off the lights and other appliances when you don’t us them, eating less meat but more vegetables, drinking less bottled water, do not use the air-conditioner so often (set the degree at twenty six when using it.) Do not make so much garbage so that we can cut down the CO2 made by burning it (that is really a huge number.) Make a good use on every piece of paper because the paper is made of trees, if we make good use on it, instead of wasting it, we could cut less trees for making paper. If we could do so, try to plant more trees because they can turn the CO2 into oxygen. All of these tips are easy and useful. Actually, saving the earth is not difficult. The most important thing is “Do it right away”. We have only one earth. She is not “mine”, “his” or “yours” but “ours” and “our children’s” mother. She gives us, all the people living on the planet, life. We should love her and keep her healthy so that our children can play on the soft grass-plot, swim in the clear blue ocean and humans can live on this beautiful planet forever. But now, our mother is sick. What we have done in recent two hundred years is a torture to earth. She is so sick and angry that she warned us with huge national disasters, typhoons, tsunamis, droughts, floods……etc. Dear my friends, we don’t have so much time. It is minutes to midnight. When it reaches midnight, it means the end of the world. But we still can change it, Just begin to protect the earth right now. By you and me, we can save the planet, our mother we love deeply.
