HsinMUN, IBSH's mission of “World Peace in Action”

When The General Conference of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization met in November 1966, it recalled the Constitution of the Organization and declared that "it is in the minds of men that the defenses of peace must be constructed" and that the peace must be founded upon the intellectual and moral solidarity of mankind. As most of the current world's political, racial and economical issues are rooted in great misunderstandings and the lack of a global vision, the world has realized that the resolution to tomorrow's issues lies in the preparation of our youngsters today, and education is the key. It is with such strong belief and determination that IBSH began our mission of “World Peace in Action” 5 years ago.

Taiwan 's political standing has long limited our youngsters' access to international resources and opportunities. While it is well-recognized that with these young men and women our future rests, the absence of proper global awareness, opportunities and connections has long made “cultivating a global vision” not much more than a slogan in Taiwan's local high schools. As an international school, IBSH students embrace opportunities galore, and find ourselves honorably responsible for promoting Taiwan high school students' right to the awareness of and participation in the understanding of the global issues. Hsinchu High School Model United Nations (HsinMUN) was thus founded in IBSH in the year 2005.

Through role-playing of international forums, discussion and negotiation on real world issues, HsinMUN aims to foster in Taiwan's local high school students the awareness and compassion in participating in the global society, and to connect with them the real world issues and events. From the 1 st HsinMUN conference of 4 participating schools and 150 students to the 5 th (2009) HsinMUN of 13 schools and over 450 students nationwide, HsinMUN has tripled its size in 5 years and has gone from a Hsinchu regional forum to receiving national attention, and IBSH successfully aroused the awareness and enthusiasm in the local youths in the participation of world issues. But we did not stop there. For 6 years IBSH continuously participated in ThiMUN in Singapore , and in 2010 we made our debut in BEIMUN in Beijing . We hope to continue to improve and enrich HsinMUN with all our international experiences.

Committed to the fostering of regional, national and international cooperation and exchange between youths, HsinMUN has been IBSH's channel of promoting the ideal of world peace through educating local youths. As the Declaration in 1965 on the Promotion among Youth of the Ideals of Peace, Mutual Respect and Understanding between Peoples has envisioned, teaching peacemaking and conflict resolution in schools has become the answer to our prayer. In the future, IBSH plans to invite students from China to join HsinMUN. When you picture the high school students from both sides sitting at the same table negotiating for the world's better future together , it is truly the “World Peace in Action”.
