Improvement with Quality, for Better Outcomes

< No one's perfect, but I could always improve ...>.

On flight over the high sky cloud from Taiwan to Singapore , I was thinking on the thanks-speech for receiving this honorable award -- < 2009 Best Quality Improvement Vendors Award >. It is an award from a worldwide renowned company, to be delivered to the company I served, on global Vendors' Meeting. To receive an Award itself is already a great honor. Point is how to better address the speech, not simply on “thanks”, but also showing our sincere respect of this Award.

I decided to start with 2 short stories few years ago, both from my families :

First -- One night, my little daughter, who studied in the elementary school, jump onto me, showing her Monthly Examination Report, and said < Look! Dad. I got full grade on all classes this month. >. Then, I responded back to her : < Wha! That's too Bad! You put yourself in a position of no opportunity for “ Improvement ”! >.

The second -- Hearing of that, my son, the little girl's elder brother, came out from his room, with his Test-Report, and said < Good thing, Dad, I will have space for improvement next time, good lot of space …

The two stories get right to the key word -- “Improvement” !

And, it continued. -- When I mentioned to my kids of an abroad trip for the < 2009 Best Quality Improvement Vendors Award> to my kids, they all laughed at me, loudly. --- < Congratulations! Dad. Previously, your company must with plenty of quality issues to make the Improvement Award …! >

To the young kids, they are too young to catch the real honor of the Award.

< No one is perfect; that's why pencils have erasers. > The apothegm came into my mind again.

< Doing It Right the First Time > !

Yes, we all know this general rule for Quality Management. Yet, indeed, we all live in a real world; no one can expect a 100% “Perfect Right” on life, and, same on business and daily works. So, more practically, the equal important things are of “Improvement”, and, “Continuous Improvement”.

In life, we cannot just wait for everything done perfectly. Life and time must keep moving forward. Back onto business side, we also need to take projects and get manufacturing on-going, everyday. Although we strictly set the SOP, set PQCP, and are doing best on controlling and management; yet, sometimes, defects and imperfections just occurred. Any part, especially, as the products we manufactured are precision micro-motors, a driving part that requires precise moving, while with physical noise, heat, EMI, etc. issues of no-like. Many processing are just done by operators. So, continuous “Improvement” becomes part of routine notification to us in mind, in real daily life.

More-over, the “Improvement” should not be just on the products itself. As on global supplying chain in competitive IT industry, the “Improvement” shall be implemented on all activities associated – the development, the lead time, the delivery, the service, the response on counter-actions, and even on CSR – corporate social responsibility, etc. It is a < from preface to final conclusion > process.

Mostly, as it must be, not only “Improvement of Quality”, but “ Improvement with Quality ”. One must do the improvement not only as duty, but do it the best efforts with the same “Doing It Right the First Time” spirits in mind.

To accomplish that, we need to fully respect our responsibility on all aspects; from suppliers to forwarders, from engineers to marketing, from each individual to our society, and, even to environment green protections.

That's the “Quality Improvement “ honor really deserved!

As the flight approached to Singapore Changi Airport , it was clear in my mind of the speech to be addressed. With the encouragement, we shall commit ourselves with more efforts on “Quality Improvement” -- of < Quality Product, Quality Service, and, Quality Relationship >.

Finally, as the airplane touched down on the beautiful garden city,

in conclusion : ( as the world is imperfect originally and even worse nowadays … )

< Improvement with Quality, for Better Outcomes, Better World > !
