Human Rights

Jerry Beingesser/Retired vice president/West End Material Supply

I'm very concerned with human rights. I recall in the early 60's when Martin Luther King was leading the way for voters rights. Those brave African Americans suffered greatly. Martin Luther King, John Kennedy, President Obama and Muhammad Ali are heros' of mine. It's ironic that inspired me the most are black.

Our daughter, Kelli Beingesser , went to Congo to teach African doctors how to do cesarean births. When she was there, she was very frightened because of the rebels. People there carry guns on the streets and have no respect for others. Kelli has decided not to returned to foreign countries but does her work in Fresno, California. She is a caring person, and I'm very proud of her for her selfless contributions to others.

My main concern is the children who are raised in poor families in USA. They have health care now because of the recent health care reform by President Obama. But thousands of youngsters go to bed at night with hungry. That is a sin, and to me it's unacceptable.

Many of our Mexican immigrants eat unhealthy diets because the food they can afford is rich, fat and chemicals. And the free lunch at schools are not healthy, either.

You and us are very liberal. We suffer the wrongs that Americans heap upon Americans. And until we solve our problems at home (hunger, living space and jobs and common decency).  We are doomed to take the wrong fork in the road.

Sharing is one answer although many wealthy Americans turn their backs on the needy.  I remain very proud of you and your endeavour to make things right to have a better world.
