Hokkaido

A Good Example to the World

Elaine Chiu/Student

When I was going to Hokkaido I thought that Hokkaido was a busy noisy city like Tokyo. Instead, there were grasses and flowers on the curb. There were almost no skyscrapers or any really tall buildings. The tallest buildings only had 5 or 6 stories. There were no factories that poured thick gray air out. I felt like being in the countryside. The barns had no cement fences like Taiwan had. Instead there were piles of hay stacked together to make a low fence. I saw that the people of Hokkaido cared about the ecosystem.

The people there were nice and cared about manners too. They would say hello or goodbye whenever you pass. The waitresses and waiters would do the best to your requests and questions. Then again I found out, the people of Hokkaido liked to be polite or passionate. The waitresses and waiters were not acting when they smiled or did a request. It didn’t matter if you were Japanese or a tourist – the people of Hokkaido cared.

The people of Hokkaido were so nice so I thought that there might not be too much robbers or thieves. Even our guide said, “There are almost no robberies or thieveries in Hokkaido. The people of Hokkaido could live peacefully in their land without worrying robberies or thieveries. Everyone obeyed the rules and laws.

Hokkaido is a really good place. The people obey laws, care about the earth, and had real manners and were nice. Taiwan and the other countries can see and learn how much the people of Hokkaido do their best do restore the earth and obey laws.
