To Protect Our Environment

City Montessori School / Kriti Srivastava

If we have ever looked around us and noticed how different organism interacts with each other and their habitats, you probably have on understanding about the way nature works. Our planet earth is on big biological system; and like all big things, this huge system is composed of smaller building g blocks called ecosystems.

Today, man has emerged as the dominant species of the planet. Due to his unlimited greed for power and riches, he has exploited nature boldly for his personal benefit. Today, we see pollution everywhere. Diseases that were unheard of just fifty years back are house hold names today. Many of these can be attributed to our modern lifestyles as well as the degraded environmental conditions we live in so, the most urgent issue at hand is that of preventing further environment degradation at all cast as well as trying to repair as much as possible the damage caused in past.

Every biotic component affects other component of the ecosystem. But man has damaged and modified the environment the most. Every human activity today has some negative effect on our ecosystem and its delicate balance. The blame is put variously on overpopulation, overconsumption or increasing use dependence on synthetic materials. All this is not just harming the environment; it has adverse effects on human and health too. The factors which affect environment.

  1. Over exploitation of resources
  2. Population growth
  3. Industrialization
  4. Increased use of synthetic materials

All these factors affect the environment and are evils of society today.

Our future existence depends on learning to cope up with the environmental demands. Thus our goal today is not to rule and control nature but to work with it to meet our needs with ecological understanding.

Their were some global agreements to protect our environment have been made earlier.

  1. Stockholm Conference (1972)
  2. Earth Summit (1992)

More than 200 Central and State laws are there today to protect environment- They are.

  1. Environment Protection Act (1986)
  2. The Indian Forest Act (1927)
  3. The Wildlife Act (1972)
  4. The Water Act (1974)
  5. The Air Act (1981)

There are also some rols of individuals to protect environment. They are.

  1. Be aware and spread awareness of threats to environment due to human activities
  2. Conscience natural resources. Do not waste fossil fuels
  3. Save water
  4. Prevent and control all forms of pollution
  5. Recycle all recyclable products
  6. Save paper and use it wisely
  7. Say ‘No’ to polythene bags and wrappers
  8. Use your creativity to reuse waste products
  9. Conserve energy. Do not waste electricity
  10. Prevent encroachment. Promote parks and gardens in cities
These are only some simple steps that anyone can follow easily. It does not matter whether you are rich or poor, young or old; the basic necessities are same for everyone. So Save the environment if we want to save our self.
