"Peace can only last where human rights are respected, where the people are fed, and where individuals and nations are free."

-- 14th Dalai Lama

World is so beautiful. Human beings is the great and strongest animal in the world. With the help of thing capacity he became a powerful person in the world. Everyone has right to live and right to speak. Now we are living in the modern world. Human beings developed in all the fields. But there is a lot of difference among the countries in the world. Co-operation and co-ordination are necessary among these countries. It is necessary and important to educate everyone in the world. It is very important to know what is Human Rights. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) was drafted by the United Nations Commission on Human Rights chaired by, then first lady, Eleanor Roosevelt. The UDHR was adopted by the 56 member nations of the United Nations General Assembly on December 10, 1948. December 10th is now celebrated around the world as International Human Rights Day.There are now 188 member states in United Nations

Human rights are international norms that help to protect all people everywhere from severe political, legal, and social abuses. Examples of human rights are the right to freedom of religion, the right to a fair trial when charged with a crime, the right not to be tortured, and the right to engage in political activity. These rights exist in morality and in law at the national and international levels. They are addressed primarily to governments, requiring compliance and enforcement.

The highest aspiration of the common man is to lead a life where he can enjoy freedom of speech, freedom of belief and have no fear of suppression. Disregard and contempt for "Human Rights" have resulted in barbarous acts which have outraged the conscience of mankind. "Human Rights" is a much used and abused term today, and is used extencivly for political gain. The term is is used to defend Human freedom as well as destroy it. People tend to attach importance to particular human rights issue according to ideology and political convenience. if a man is not to have recourse or rebellion against tyranny and oppression, taking law into their own hands,"Human Rights" should be built into the society as a natural rule. As a last resort only, law should be applied as a protection.

“Todd Gitlin in his essay on Human rights states- "Human rights: the literal words deserve a moment's scrutiny. Human: member of the species, the single race Homo sapiens. Whatever persons are called, or call themselves, wherever they live, they are human. Therefore human rights: benefits to which people are entitled simply by virtue of being human””.

“ Human Beings, indeed all sentient beings, have the right to pursue happiness and live in peace and freedom.”

-- 14th Dalai Lama

Everyone has the right to education... Education shall be directed to the full development of human personality and to the strengthening of respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms. It shall promote understanding, tolerance and friendship among all nations, racial or religious groups, and shall further the activities of the United Nations for the maintenance of peace.

The concept underpinning human rights education is that education should not only aim at forming trained, professional workers, but also at contributing to the development of individuals who possess the skills to interact in a society. Human rights education, human rights into education aim at providing pupils and students with the abilities to accompany and produce societal changes. Education is seen as a way to empower people, improve their quality of life and increase their capacity to participate in the decision-making processes leading to social, cultural and economic policies.

Drishti uses media and the arts to build empowered communities that value self-expression and uphold human rights. We believe that community media has the power to revolutionize grassroot struggles and to promote sustainable change. Therefore, we are actively working to build a media of the people, for the people and by the people in partnership with NGOs around India.

Another organisation aiming at promoting peace & human rights is Peacenet is not a human rights group by itself. It is the first and largest computer network for activists in peace, human rights and related issues. Peacenet is run by the Institute for Global Communications (IGC), an activity of the Tides Foundation, a San Francisco-based non-profit trust. It is a member of the Association for Progressive Communications, an international coalition of networks for peace and human rights activists.

Todays need of the hour is PROMOTION OF HUMAN RIGHTS as their disregard and contempt have resulted in barbarous acts which have outraged the conscience of mankind, and the advent of a world in which human beings shall enjoy freedom of speech and belief and freedom from fear and want has been proclaimed as the highest aspiration of the common people,Whereas it is essential, if man is not to be compelled to have recourse, as a last resort, to rebellion against tyranny and oppression, that human rights should be protected by the rule of law...Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. This is not a way of life at all in any true sense. Under the clouds of war, it is humanity hanging on a cross of iron

A very large majority believes promoting human rights is an important priority for US foreign policy. A very strong majority feels that with the increased economic involvement that has come with globalization, the US should be more concerned about human rights in other countries. Majorities feel that promoting human rights serves US interests. Denying human rights is seen as leading to political instability, and a majority believes that using US military forces to remove a government that is abusing human rights is justified. A majority also supports using foreign aid as a means of promoting human rights. A strong majority feels that as economic involvement with other countries has increased due to globalization, the US has an increased responsibility to address human rights in those countries
