Since the start of 2010, the world has seen countless natural disasters and man-made calamities such as earthquakes, floods, drought, volcanic eruption, Red Shirts' protest in Thailand , the confrontation between North and South Korea , oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, and the debt crisis in Europe . Under the enormous pressure of these events, our global community is like an overheated pressure-cooker, and its members have grown uneasy accordingly. At this critical moment, how shall a world citizen cope with the situations? In recognition of these crises, the UN/NGO Association of World Citizens especially organized the “2010 World Summit on Human Rights for World Citizen” and appealed to all world citizens to get involved and seek a harmonious and sustainable relationship between mankind and the earth. The event has received enormous responses from people in all circles across the world. Up to date, the “World Summit on Human Rights Column” initiated by the summit has received over 250,000 articles from more than 11,700 organizations and institutions in 196 nations, as well as over 11,000 congratulatory notes. The education field at home and abroad has enthusiastically responded to the summit's invitation to write articles, and the Ministry of Education even posted information about the event on its website. In addition to kindergartens and primary schools, there are 162 colleges participating in the event. Among these schools, the Nanya Institute of Technology has the most participants; more than 10,000 teachers and students joined the event “Protecting the Earth with Genuine Hearts and Good Words.” This school's remarkable achievement was publicized in a ceremony in the international conference room in the great hall of Nanya Institute at 2:00 P.M. on June 14, 2010 . At a conference about “Safeguarding the Earth with Good Hearts and Good Articles,” the Nanya Institute of Technology submits a DVD of 10,000 articles as a token of the school's determination to safeguard the earth.

President Wang, who has received western style education and once taught at Stanford University , has placed great emphasis on Chinese culture at his school. Therefore, there are a lot of posters of moral education phrases on campus. He also led his school to take part in the “elite education program” organized by the Ministry of Education, with the theme of moral education. The objective is to cultivate students' moral character and teach them to be good world citizens. In response to the global trend, the collection of the school's 10,000 good articles and good thoughts is a collective effort to safeguard the Earth and protect human rights. This activity is also an important milestone for implementing moral education in the “elite education program” and for enhancing the quality of teaching.

The opening of the conference was a film of President Wang “kissing the earth of the Nanya Institute, expressing his love for Nanya and for the Earth.” In the film, President Wang showed his love and passion for the school by kissing all corners of the school. He also made a speech in both English and Chinese, addressing the importance of situation education in moral education and the importance of cultivating the ideas of loving oneself, loving others, and loving the world. He also advocated that we should implement in our daily lives the ideas of safeguarding the earth and that it is important to combine the 7 main themes of education into teaching and circumstances through innovative teaching activities. He emphasized that the ideals promoted by the UN/NGO Association of World Citizens match well with his philosophy of education and the main trend of international education; therefore, he was delighted to lead his school to join in this meaningful event. The Vice President of the Association of World Citizens in Taiwan Ms. Yiu also delivered a speech on behalf of President Dr. Hong Tao-Tze, and she mentioned, “Your participation in the activities of the 2010 human rights education for world citizens has set a good example for the rest of the nation because the president, directors of departments, and students all use their good articles and thoughts to protect human rights, show respect for others, and safeguard the earth. This year is the 10 th anniversary of World Citizenship Day. Although the “2010 World Summit on Human Rights for World Citizens” has successfully concluded, the world citizens' voice and actions continue in every corner of the world. As world citizens, we find that this event symbolizes that our collective hearts and efforts will transform into waves upon waves of good energies that are to change the world. Let's work together to overcome the challenges in the future.”

The representatives of the students and their teachers voice their wish in English and Chinese on various topics.

Five representatives of the students, along with their teachers, shared their thoughts in English and Chinese on topics of care, politeness and smiling, love, peace, courtesy, etc. Ms. Li-Chin Wei, one of the teachers, said, “This event is of great significance because it incorporates the 7 main themes of education into the teaching and the surroundings. It is a lot of fun implementing this.”

The UN/NGO Association of World Citizens (AWC), collaborating with the Federation of World Peace and Love (FOWPAL), and Tai Ji Men Qigong Academy, has promoted human rights education and cultural exchange activities throughout the 5 continents. The events in schools included “Education Train of Human Rights for World Citizens” in schools in Taiwan , “The wisdom of Life” forums in Columbia University , New York University, San Francisco University and UC Berkeley. Dr. Hong, who delivered speeches at those universities, explained the wisdom of life based on the wisdom of the philosophy of yin and yang. He guided the people of the world to start from the hearts. We must start from ourselves so as to generate effective energies that allow the human society to move towards the state of love, tolerance, harmony, and lasting peace. AWC, FOWPAL, and Tai Ji Men also hosted “Global Endorsement of Declarations for Human Rights of the World Citizen and Peace” in American University in Cairo, Egypt and Montessori School in India, which is the biggest school on the earth with more than 30,000 students, with an aim to foster students' understanding about human rights through various methods. All the activities and events share the same objective of guiding people to practice in their lives the concept of human rights in relation to love, respect and care so as to bring positive changes to the world. We hope that with our loving care, the earth can live on forever, and our world will be a better place.
