Colorism - Shades of Black America

housewife Jessa Rozsas
I was watching a Documentary by a student attending Hampton University discussing colorism within the African American community. Not only are students faced with racism between 'whites' and 'blacks' but the African American community are sometimes racist towards each other. Some people think just because they are 'black' they can discriminate against other people who are black. But regardless of your skin tone or race, racism is wrong.

* In the documentry they mention "the paper bag test".
* For those of you who don't know what that is...
The "brown paper bag test" was a ritual once practiced by certain African American and Creole fraternities and sororities who discriminated against people who were "too dark." That is, these groups would not let anyone into the sorority or fraternity whose skin tone was darker than a paper lunch bag, in order to maintain a perception of standards

I'm not the slightest bit African America, and that actually offends me. Is racism still this bad? How many of you have attended school or college where they have this kind of racism or colorism? What is your opinion on it?

Here is the documentary by Hampton University students:

They asked students if they had a color preference and it came to my attention that most girls in the documentary seemed to prefer men with darker skin. What about you? Do you have a preference to skin tone when it comes to dating? How about when it comes to friends? To me it doesn't matter. I've dated a number of different races, and all shades of color. Love is love..
