August 8th 2009, in Taiwan, the day of Father's day, when many children ubiquitously in this island celebrating this great day of their dads, in this moment, thousands of thousands tons of mud blended with rocks, cobbles and fallen trees stampeding down to bulldoze then submerge a calm aboriginal mountainous village in southern Taiwan. Just in few seconds, many fathers lived here from childhood suddenly disappeared and many family erased in this horrible landslide caused by unprecedented storm, in less than 48 hours with precipitation totally accumulated over 3000 mm, more than Taiwan's average rainfall 2800 mm annually. The shocking barrage of millions tons of water pouring down to took away many lives still been haunting the survived and who ever been here to attend a famous sight-seeing festival of night-ritual for ancestors. Drastic weather anomaly obviously is blamed for this apocalypse-like event. The derailed climate twisted the weather, which used to be predictable and tolerable. Yes, the murder is the climate change, the same one grabbing the habitats for walrus, polar bears and many creatures which then are verging toward endangered status and even extinct from the earth.

However, if we get deeper, abnormal weather is merely an accomplice for those many natural calamities. The notorious green house effect due to over carbon emission derived whatever from basic need for ordinary living, like soot emitted from daily cooking in India to the orgy due to economic development, wanting for off-season fruits thru air freight or ocean shipment from another continent, bottled mineral water transported from afar etc, is the culprit accounting for these catastrophes. Suddenly everyone, poor or rich, more or less involved in the carbon-emission which actually behind all those dramatically climate changes that frequently causing nemesis-like-casualty around the world, including drought, flood and famine. Paradoxically, the victims are likely to be the murders for themselves, which analogical to the consequence of germs cultivation that when they multiplying to the culmination then they're killed by what they did.

In 2009, the world populations have already reached to more than 6.7 billion. Each one basically needs food, clothing and shelter while some other want to be well-being and even further to be in rich and luxury. All those need or greed definitely consume massive resources then unavoidably results in derivatives, including CO2. When the BRIC, including Brazil, Russia, India and China that totally comprise 40% of the global total human-being, are marching toward developed status, their spending binge of their people with newly gained wealth, certainly and inevitably, are going to generate far more green-house-gases than they used to be. Last December, in Copenhagen climate change conference, Obama and world leader met there and reached agreement to decrease 25~40% green house gases emission by Y2020 enthusiastically, though, measures to achieve this goal to solve this issue made while enforce passively. Many main industrial countries still remain aloof toward climate battle, including China and United States, because they're only indirectly good to them while they're immediately bad for their own economic growth.

Don't be frustrated since there always some sparks shining somewhere like Brazil government paying for farm owners to keep forest; Many green energy, like wind turbine and solar cell, are developing to somewhat mitigate the impact of traditional filthy energy like coal, oil. And, where is the cure-all? As an ordinary people like us, what can we do to cool the planet? My opinion is to curb our greed for lesser spree more frugal. The panacea is in our hand. What do you think?
